I'm not actually new here. I probably started going to felicifia.com about a year ago, but I don't have an intro post there either.

I'm currently in my first year of college.

I pretty much always took Utilitarianism for granted. When I found the article on Wikipedia, I learned the existence of other ethical philosophies. At around that time, I decided to actually do what I already figured out was right (donate all the money I can get). Unfortunately, I'm pretty lazy. I didn't get a job until college, and I've just been saving the money for college. I do refrain from actually spending money. When I'm supposed to give someone a gift (Christmas, etc.) I just donate money to charity and act like that's somehow giving them something. Technically, I only did that once, but that's probably what I'm going to do from now on.

I donate to Unitus, which deals with microcredit.

What are you studying at college?

Your view of util sounds familiar. I think a few people here have given similar stories... (one in my sig)
"These were my only good shoes."
"You ought to have put on an old pair, if you wished to go a-diving," said Professor Graham, who had not studied moral philosophy in vain.

Currently I'm taking the calculus that deals with vectors, online C programming, macroeconomics, psychology, and rock climbing.

Is this a science course, Daniel?

I agree with the idea of saving money, but a caution: sometimes you do have to spend money to make money. And sometimes you do have to spend money to build social relationships.

Also, where do you hope for your course to take you?
