Alternative to meat 'reduction' advocacy?

Postby inQuestion on 2013-11-29T03:38:00

I've been thinking, and it seems to me that instead of advocating meat reduction for those not willing to give up meat, we could advocate meat alternatives increase. The reason I think this is because we need more demand in the meat alternatives department. Greater competition would mean more variety, lower price and better taste. More importantly, we may be able to reach a tipping point where eating mock meats is not just acceptable, but a normal part of the average american diet... Well... maybe not the 'average' american, but perhaps some significant subclasses.

My primary concern with this method is how we would convince people. Any thoughts?

So, to clarify, you mean that you don't tell people to eat any less meat than they do; you just suggest that they eat more meat substitutes?

Many similar arguments could apply: health, animal welfare, environment, etc.
