I am Rupert. I am a maths teacher in Shanghai. I have just finished a PhD in maths. I have an interest in philosophy and ethics. This is my first post to this forum.

Hi Rupert, welcome to the forum. Nice to have a mathematician around - I think most of us are interested (if not necessarily competent) in the subject :)

Do you consider yourself a utilitarian/consequentialist, or are you just interested in the subject?

Hi, Rupert: welcome.

Yes, I really enjoy maths and one of the disadvantages of the career path that I've taken (medicine) is that not many doctors use maths very much. Or rather they don't use interesting maths very much.

I hope you enjoy the forum :)

I don't consider myself a consequentialist but I consider consequentialism a viable moral theory. I am a vegan and I have joined Toby Ord's organisation "Giving What We Can".
