I notice you take interest in people like Douglas Hofstadter who study consciousness. While I haven't read Hofstadter in particular, consciousness is a topic that seems to fascinate me endlessly. It's problems fall on an intersection of science and philosophy, they have potentially massive ethical implications, and they might be solved in our lifetime!
Among other authors on the topic, I read a lot of Dan Dennett, who coauthored The Minds I with Hofstadter actually.
