I don't often post unrelated YouTube videos, so I'll just say that I find this video to be both thought-provoking and expertly done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuK2A1Zq ... re=related - I could quite genuinely write a thesis on it. I will never again doubt either animation or music as a form of expression - and if you watch the video all the way through, while concentrating on what's happening, I doubt you will either.

I would never have thought to doubt either, but still...
Not altogether sold on the music, but the animation was fantastic. I'd love to know what else the animators have done.

Having returned to that video, I can say that I really enjoyed it. I liked the art style. While I don't seek out rap myself, I didn't mind it musically. I thought the brass instrument that played through the background was pretty cool.
I'm not sure where I stand on the matter of music videos as art. I can certainly tell you my most memorable all-time videoclip. It's a screamy rock-song, Do The Evolution, by Pearl Jam. To say it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea would be an understatement, but it's here anyway.

Re: Thought-provoking video
Jinksy's post echoes what a couple of my friends have said - personally I do like the music, too, though I'm not a huge fan of most of the band's other works. But I am going to try to find some other videos by the same animators - I'll link you to any I find.
The Pearl Jam video was interesting, but the not-everyone's-cup-of-tea comment is pretty much spot-on, I'm afraid. Sorry.

I have to admit that for the first half of the video I was wondering why they used animation at all as nearly all of the shots/angles etc were things that could be done with live footage. Not wild about that style of music, sort of prefering this song for that style:
