This is similar to motive utilitarianism.
For example, why do I know more about how to commit a murder than I do about how to treat the medical condition of shock (which is actually several different related conditions)? Obviously, because of the TV shows I've watched over the years! Yes, even with all the medical shows, I know a lot more about murder than about the medical treatment of shock. And that's a shame. Shock has a lot of drama, a lot of tension, first it can be medium and then it can become more serious, or not, and it's treated different ways.
So, we try to expand our 'repertoire.' We try and make more of an effort to add skills that are likely to be genuinely useful.
