Hi everyone.

My name is Luke Muehlhauser, though I'm known on the internet as 'lukeprog' of CommonSenseAtheism.com, the podcast 'Conversations from the Pale Blue Dot', and some other stuff.

I'm currently a researcher for Singularity Institute (singularity.org).

I probably won't have time to engage the community much beyond a few targeted discussions.

Cheers!

Luke

Hey Luke,

I've read some of your stuff and it's awesome! I'm sure Alan will reply to your thread, and I'll be interested to see what things you both bring up. Apart from that, I hope you will join in a few of the discussions, I'm sure your perspective (consequentialist but not total utilitarian - correct me if I'm wrong) will be interesting.

So, yeah... Welcome. :D
World domination is such an ugly phrase. I prefer to call it world optimization

Welcome, Luke.
I have a lot to learn about AI, so I'm glad you've come. I could do a lot worse than read a few of your targeted discussions! Since it seems like you and Alan are about to write something about the relationship between consequentialism and the singularity, I'll just flag the possibility that a week from now, I may be asking your permission to include a few select quotes in the wiki felicifia entry on the singularity!

Hey Luke, welcome along. Was going to ask you about LW's dismissive approach to 'maximise happiness' as an instruction for a friendly AI, but I should prob browse through the thread that's sprung up on the subject first...

Quick request - can you point me towards the resource I'm looking for here?
"These were my only good shoes."
"You ought to have put on an old pair, if you wished to go a-diving," said Professor Graham, who had not studied moral philosophy in vain.
