I just received a press release for this book, which I wasn't sure whether to post, but decided to since it had come from an animal ethics group with, to my knowledge, no direct connection to the author. The thesis is potentially relevant to GWWC etc, though if the correlation turns out to be as strong as the blurb makes out its main benefit might be motivational.
Animal welfare's links to human welfare?

Animal welfare's links to human welfare?
"These were my only good shoes."
"You ought to have put on an old pair, if you wished to go a-diving," said Professor Graham, who had not studied moral philosophy in vain.

Interesting. I haven't read the book, but a priori I'm skeptical that animal health has that much of an impact, with the primary exception being viruses like H5N1, which could potentially kill millions of people and which are largely due to factory farming of chickens. Another big, indirect effect comes from meat production's contribution to climate change, which will exacerbate disease.
