Do you use Yahoo Goodsearch? If so, what charity do you use? You can raise money for charities without doing any work. Yahoo takes some of the money and you won't raise a lot individually but if everyone here used it, it could make a sizable difference. I've raised about $5 for the Animals and Society Institute.

I tried a similar engine in the past. The problem with such ventures is that if you think your time has almost any utilitarian value, it seems unlikely that it's worth the reduced efficiency you'll get from using it vs the latest in Google/Microsoft search technology.

This one is significantly better than the one I used in that it seems to allow me to donate to AMF (though not DtW or SCI - didn't try any animal groups) at least.

I don't think it takes any more time. It's the same search results as you get with Yahoo. You're using Yahoo's search. It's just linked to the charity of your choice. You can actually set the search function up in your toolbar menu so that you can do an internet search without having to go to Yahoo's website.

Right, but I don't think many people would claim that Google's search isn' tbetter than Yahoo's.

I've never noticed a difference but I've never done the two searches side-by-side. Have you?
You could use Goodsearch just for internet purchases. They probably bring in more money than searching anyway.
It doesn't really make a difference to me which you use. I definitely don't want to sound like a Yahoo advertiser. I posted this really just because I wanted to hear others' views on the topic.

Sure. I haven't used Yahoo much, I'm mainly just going on their relative popularities.

They certainly won't be identical, since the exact algorithms both use will be closely guarded secrets.

Amazon and many other sites too. I believe half goes to Yahoo and half to the charity you pick. So Yahoo definitely is making some money off this too.

How much does the charity get? Anyone done a fermi on how much it would get per hour reduced time (from say, 20% increased search-time from lower efficiency).

50% goes to the charity and 50% goes to Yahoo. [It says that in one of the FAQs.]
