Gay bishop to lead prayers at Obama inauguration

Postby Arepo on 2009-01-13T14:25:00

The Times wrote:US President-elect Barack Obama has invited gay bishop Gene Robinson to lead prayers at the opening of celebrations next Sunday leading up to his inauguration next week. The invitation will go some way to placate liberal critics in the US who condemned his invitation to the anti-gay evangelical pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the inauguration itself.

Bishop Robinson was himself among those who attacked Mr Obama over the choice of Rick Warren, describing it as a "slap in the face".

I think Obama speaks really powerfully about equality and equal rights. It's one of his real strengths. And if he can play just a little part in eliminating stigma and reducing discrimination, it'll be a fantastic thing for his country.
